What you can do
UPDATE! (1/7/99)
Wondering what Thomas Harker of ICD has been doing all this time instead
of shipping Catboxes? How about running Rock River Internet, a Rockford,
Illinois ISP! In an article reprint from Network
Magazine, you can see Tom Harker talking about ISDN. Thanks to Sean Connery for the article & info!
UPDATE! (12/31/98)
I've received a response from the Rockford
Regional Better Business Bureau after I sent them a ton of documentation.
I wasn't surprised to see that they really didn't do anything (besides,
the small claims court listed is completely wrong).
UPDATE! (10/24/98)
I've received a response from my credit card
company about obtaining a refund on the catboxes I ordered. Though my
request is well past the initial 120 days, they're "...attempting a "Good
Faith Collection Effort"...". This may take three to six months.

Well, I wrtoe ICD asking about games in development and what
not and heres the reply I got:
I can't comment on our plans until after I ship CatBoxes that are owed to
people. Thanks for your support and interest.
We will announce new projects on our web site when we are caught up.
Tom
There is two ways I look at it. One is they just flat out dont care
or two, they may have something up there sleeve, thats why they are
hush hush about it!!
Just keepin you all postEDDD
UPDATE! (9/10/98)
Yes, we're back... eta.org went offline for three months due to lack of a
net connection. At the time I didn't give it too much thought, thinking
the catbox situation would be resolved before the fall semester. It's
now three months later, and still no word from Tom Harker or ICD,
Inc.
It was also right after eta.org temporarily went offline that I emailed
Tom Harker. I asked for him to refund the total purchase price of the two
catboxes I ordered. He sent me an email saying
it would be done
immediately. After numerous emails to ICD and three months later, I have
yet to see a refund.
The only action I'm taking right now is to keep this page up.
I want others to know that Tom Harker has lied, and that ICD,
Inc. engages in fraudulent business practices.
I'll post further updates as things unfold.
UPDATE! (4/17/98)
I just received 2 emails from Tom Harker at ICD, Inc., and one additional
email forwarded to me.
- First Email concerning the shipment of my
Catboxes & other Atari hardware which I ordered.
-
Second Email, "If you want CatBoxes, you will
have to be patient."
- Third Email, Forwarded to me concerning the
status of the Catboxes from Kevin
Manne
My personal stance:
- Everyone has been patient, it's ICD's obligation to inform their
consumers of all delays and problems.
- I believe ICD should complete what they've started in a timely
fashion.
- Finally, I'm going to keep on doing what I have been doing, until
everyone receives their Catbox.
If you have comments, questions, or problems, please email me: mrpeter2@students.wisc.edu
UPDATE! (4/17/98)
Dan Keller has sent me email
concerning a letter that he's planning on sending to Tom Harker at ICD. If
you have any suggestions or additions, please email him (all updates will
also appear on this page).
Here is a letter that I plan on sending to Tom Harker. I want to get your
thoughts before I send it out. Perhaps, if people agree to it, we could
add to it the names of all people affected. Also, if anyone happens to be
well versed in law, they might be able to give a concrete reference to the
binding terms of a business transaction. In any case, read it carefully
when you have the time, and let me know how you think we should handle it.
A copy of the proposed letter (as of 4/17/98).
UPDATE! (4/17/98)
A link to the Better Business Bureau online complaint form has been added in
the What you can do section. (Thanks to Kevin Daley for
this information.)
UPDATE! (4/16/98)
I was sent email from someone who has received their Catbox.
I've withheld their name & email address at their request.
(FYI: I called the number below, and option '4' doesn't seem to exist any
more after hitting the '#' key.)

Subject: Catbox situation
Matthew,
Wow! I thought I was the only one! I eventually got my Catbox just about
a month ago, but that was *7 MONTHS* after I had ordered it and ICD took
my money from my credit card. I had to incessantly pester Tom Harker by
calling him every day in order to get my order. In fact, one day he said
that he would send it on a Monday, and when I called back four days later,
he had *just* sent it! Needless to say I thought Tom and ICD were
handling the situation very poorly, and I was extremely frustrated!
The way I finally got my Catbox was this: I let Tom know that I had taped
a conversation of ours where he said that he would ship the unit that day.
Of course he hadn't, and was nervous when I let him know I had the
recording. I was able to reliably contact him by calling his number
815-968-2228 ext 320, and then if given the option by the computer I would
page him (option 4). After paging him, I generally was able to get him on
the line. If enough people bug him with this and by calling the Attorney
General's office, perhaps we can get some results for you and those others
that still haven't received their Catbox!
Power to ya',

UPDATE! (4/15/98)
The Catbox problem may be just the tip of the iceberg with ICD, Inc. If
you're waiting for any additional hardware from ICD, please email me. So
far the list of unshipped hardware includes a copy of Aircars, a Link 2,
and misc. cables.
What you can do
My Original Post to USENET (Which started this page, April 14th, 1998)
Have you received the BCD Catbox you ordered from ICD, Inc.?
Probably not.
The shipping date has been moved more the once, and still currently
is set at February 28, 1998. (http://www.icd.com/jaguar/index.html)
It's now April 14th, and I have yet receive response from my email & phone
inquiries to ICD.
So today I called up the Illinois Attorney General's office and requested
a consumer fraud/complaint form. (800) 252-2518 or (217)-782-1090.
I don't think this process is going to be quick, but I think it's better
to do something now, than to wait for a product that may never be shipped.
I urge you to call up the Attorney General's office and also request they
mail you a form also. (fyi: ICD resides in Rockford, IL)
Finally as a last (or first?) potential step, please feel free to email me
your name & email address. I'm more than willing to start a list of
'potential Catbox owners' who have yet to receive their product. The
Attorney General's office may act faster if they see how many people are
involved in this situation.
My email: mrpeter2@students.wisc.edu
or avrex@eta.org
If I get a fair response of emails, I'm also going to set a web page up at
http://www.eta.org/catbox/ to keep everyone informed of the situation.
Atari lovers deserve their hardware... now.
Thank you,
Matthew Peterson
